Foot troops are the Evony units you start with, and also the type of unit you will most likely have the most of. Foot troops are the cheapest units to build in Evony, and they come in 6 different types. Four of them are actual combat units, one of them are used for transporting stuff around and one of them are used to scout on your Enemies. The pikeman in Evony is a troop geared towards offense and also taking out enemy ponies. They are good at taking out enemy cavalry having a long reach and high speed. Enemy cavalry are often in front so the pikemen can hit them hard taking them out without being stuck with the enemy’s rainbow. When in battle, the ration between pikemen and cavalry is about 3:2. Pikemen are much cheaper and faster to train than cavalry though, so it’s not a bad ratio at all. Read more
Defensive Players: For those who prioritize survival above all else such as turtles – or simply have other focuses in the game than attacking – like the diplomat.

The swordsman is the defense foot soldier. They are decent at attacking too, but most players in Evony tend to use the swordsman for defense. Overall they are a pretty bad troop type though. They are slow to build and they move pretty slowly also. Pikemen are much faster so they are the choice for taking out cavalry and go on loyalty dropping missions. Warriors are worse than swordsmen in combat but way way cheaper and faster to train. I don’t use swordsmen much at all in Evony these days.
