Swordsman.

The swordsman is the defense foot soldier. They are decent at attacking too, but most players in Evony tend to use the swordsman for defense. Overall they are a pretty bad troop type though. They are slow to build and they move pretty slowly also. Pikemen are much faster so they are the choice for taking out cavalry and go on loyalty dropping missions. Warriors are worse than swordsmen in combat but way way cheaper and faster to train. I don’t use swordsmen much at all in Evony these days.

    Swordsmen in the right numbers are actually very good at defending against scout bombs. If you have 12 swordsmen for every 10 archers, the scout bombs will attack the swordsmen. And, because swordsmen have a much higher defense, they will kill far fewer of them than they kill of archers.

    This is great when you have an enemy who concentrates on scouts/scout bombs. They can’t figure out why they can’t take you out.

    Yes, they are slower to build than warriors, but when you have the time to build them, 100k swords eats a lot less food than the 500k warriors you’d need to equal their defense.
