The pikeman in Evony is a troop geared towards offense and also taking out enemy ponies. They are good at taking out enemy cavalry having a long reach and high speed. Enemy cavalry are often in front so the pikemen can hit them hard taking them out without being stuck with the enemy’s rainbow. When in battle, the ration between pikemen and cavalry is about 3:2. Pikemen are much cheaper and faster to train than cavalry though, so it’s not a bad ratio at all.
