Pikemen

The pikeman in Evony is a troop geared towards offense and also taking out enemy ponies. They are good at taking out enemy cavalry having a long reach and high speed. Enemy cavalry are often in front so the pikemen can hit them hard taking them out without being stuck with the enemy’s rainbow. When in battle, the ration between pikemen and cavalry is about 3:2. Pikemen are much cheaper and faster to train than cavalry though, so it’s not a bad ratio at all. Read more

Troop build for offense players

Offensive Players: For those that play the game to crush enemies, like the bear, or make strategic assaults, like the hawk.

Casual Offensive Players: For those that farm npc’s once a day at most.

Don’t even bother. Seriously. Offensive armies simply require more food and resources than defensive ones. If you are a casual player, I recommend playing the game defensively. If you have little time to play, but still want to attack, then I recommend you use the casual defensive player setup listed above, and attack only very weak targets with archers. Evony rainbow attack and layering

The rainbow attack has been discussed a lot when it comes to Evony combat mechanics. Basically a rainbow attack is an attack with one main army type and 50 – 1,000 troops of each other type you have available, usually not including siege weapons as they are too slow. You don’t want to use less than 50, as they may be killed off in traps before they reach the enemy troops and then they will loose their purpose. The purpose of including them is to make the enemy troops busy for one round so that the main type of your army can either reach the enemies without being damaged, or fire at the enemy without taking damage themselves for several rounds. This is called layering and here are two standard Evony rainbow formations. Read more

Cavalry attack

This attack allows 99,000 of your cavalry to attack enemy archers in the first round, ignore swordsmen, pikes, etc, that may be guarding them, while simultaneously causing the enemy archers to not retaliate for multiple rounds. In practice, this can allow a player to kill several hundred thousand archers with an average attack hero – with almost no losses, or a particularly skilled player to wipe over one million archers with hardly a scratch. This is achieved by manipulating two key elements of the battle mechanics in the favor of the attacker. Read more
